This Sustainable Sports Ground in BGC Should Be on Every Baller’s Radar
Located in the heart of BGC, The Courtyard by Nike is the latest haven designed for the Filipino basketball community to train and step up their games
The crowd-favorite hangout spot, Bonifacio Global City, is now home to The Courtyard, Nike’s latest addition to its international circuit of courts dedicated to giving communities of ballers the space to enjoy the sport. Within The Courtyard are a number of basketball courts purposefully designed to house inclusive communities, reflect Filipino’s exuberant spirits, and uphold Nike’s continued commitment to sustainability.
The precise location of this 2,182 square-meter venue is 25th Street and 7th Avenue in BGC. Open to all Nike members and ballers of all levels that sign up for free using the Nike app, The Courtyard welcomes both pros and amateur enthusiasts as it includes two FIBA-standard full courts and one half-court. The half-court also has a free-throw line meant for practice shooting.

The credit for The Courtyard’s purposeful design goes to Filipino visual artist and illustrator Kiefer Indiongco, who is also known as Kiefsix and as the owner and Creative Director of local streetwear brand BLANK-SIX. Kiefsix incorporated bright colors and bold patterns to reflect local aesthetics and capture the local basketball culture. According to him, “The hope is that every baller who steps onto the court will feel a sense of identity, and they will feel proud to be a Filipino baller.”
Notably, this venue has a locker facility, restrooms, shower rooms, and a rooftop that doubles as an observation deck. This deck is suitable for audiences to watch the action on the courts from above, as well as space for events and workshops.
The Courtyard also gives local hoopers the opportunity to play ball on a sustainable sports ground as the surfaces of the two full-size courts are made with Nike Grind rubber, specifically from the outsoles of about 30,000 pairs of recycled shoes. This is in connection with Nike’s commitment to the preservation of our planet. Nike Grind is one manifestation of their circular waste systems that reduce and reuse material waste to ultimately keep it away from landfills and incineration.

It’s also worth noting that The Courtyard is designed to be an inclusive space. Not only will it connect more ballers to the Filipino basketball culture, but it will also help bring in more women and girls into the sport. This will be done through weekly pickup runs, female-only games, and regular basketball camps for ballers of all levels, including Girls Got Game Philippines and women’s community groups. These camps are to be led by Nike athletes and coaches in order to deepen Filipinos’ love of basketball and community.
