Braided Buns and Laissez-Faire Hair Were in Full Effect at London Fashion Week

With London Fashion Week capping off, we look back at the memorable hair entries that are poised to dominate the next season

It goes without saying that London Fashion Week was certainly felt in full force for the Spring/Summer 2024 season. On the runway, emerging designers and established names fully exhibited a renewed sense of creative energy through a play on silhouettes, textures, and accents. Take the case of imaginative garments fronting most of the shows. Susan Fang, for one, explored the role of artificial intelligence in the context of the natural world in her recent showcase. Elsewhere, Chopova Lowena took inspiration from the concept of angels, devils, and the feeling of falling for a skater boy.

Yes, the conversation is all about the season’s ensembles. But there was something about witnessing beauty details that felt particularly special. Case in point? The season’s up-and-coming hair trends spotted at London Fashion Week. From Richard Quinn’s take on braided buns to Yuhan Wang’s vision of twisted tendrils, these are the hair entries that are poised to dominate the future.

Richard Quinn’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection continues to reimagine the classic hair bun. “Sleek and glossy braided chignons with plenty of modern hairspray and dressed to kill for the ultimate polish,” hair artist Sam McKnight said as he described the hair direction. As for the results? The perfect hair edit that complemented the ensembles’ timeless glamour.

Low-maintenance hairstyles are a perennial aesthetic for springtime. But this season is all about injecting some drama where it’s due. Enter: twisted tendrils. In Yuhan Wang’s Spring/Summer 2024 runway, models donned a melange of plaits, waves, and curls. Without a doubt, it was the perfect look that complemented the playful, cottagecore motif of the show. In another case, ERDEM gave the classic look a minimalist turn by reimagining it as decorative baby hairs.

The recently concluded fashion week has placed so much emphasis on laissez-faire beauty—and hair is no exception. Follow a cue from Simone Rocha’s show. As for the direction? Lightly styled hair look. The nonchalant style was also in full effect at Tove’s Spring/Summer 2024 collection. Courtesy of Cim Mahony, the artist gave a cool girl spin to the look with entries that embrace the hair’s natural texture.
