Michelle Dee Breathes Life to the Pearl of the Orient For Miss Universe
Michelle makes a strong introduction as the Philippines’ bet for the crown at the 72nd Miss Universe with a homage to our national gem
With more than just a month away before the coronation night, Michelle Marquez Dee is all the more determined to claim the Miss Universe crown. As the organization officially commences the competition with the introduction of the candidates, the country’s representative gives the world, the universe, rather, a glimpse of her regal power in her official headshots for the preliminary voting.

The country’s catch
Just like a mythical goddess who emerged from the deep seas, MMD was a vision in a white sculptural top by designer Vilrick Cruz. The piece was almost shell-like in its shape and draping illusion, which added a hint of iridescence to it. She paired the statement design with a knotted skirt and mesh boots with rhinestones, keeping the marine image in check.
Shining through the whole look were the jewelry donned by the reigning Miss Universe Philippines, courtesy of Jewelmer. The curved dangle and band could also be a play on elements of the sea, whether it was an homage to the waves, mermaid tales, or anchors.
Meanwhile, makeup artist Dave Quiambao toned down their strong trademark latte makeup and opted for a softer blend this time. He kept it natural with a bronze glow, as well as a soft line on her eyes. Finishing it off was a glazed lip for that dewy effect. For this shoot, the candidate also switched up her sleek bob with that of a pushed back style with a few strands falling on her face. All in all, we could say that this is Michelle showcasing a side of hers that was softer, undone, but equally striking.
The pearl’s promise
A few days ago, Michelle’s home network, GMA, gave her a special send-off. In between her pasarela training sessions and among her other queen-making lessons, she would still attend to her actress duties.
Last October 4, her newest film Keys to the Heart, which she starred alongside Elijah Canlas, Zanjoe Marudo, and Dolly de Leon, premiered on Netflix. Giving a nod to her advocacy of providing equal opportunities to individuals within the spectrum, the Miss Universe Philippines title holder played the role of Annette Labayen, a pianist who would aid in honing the potential of Jayjay, a character with autism.
