Kim Chiu’s Birthday Pixie Cut is a Throwback to Her Iconic Role
Kim marked her 34th birthday by sporting a pixie cut, and it gave us nostalgia for one of her most iconic roles to date
The French fashion designer Coco Chanel once said, “A woman who changes her hair is about to change her life.” Judging by the looks of Kim Chiu’s birthday photoshoot, that is indeed true.

In one of her birthday posts on Instagram, the Linlang star surprised her fans with a chopped hairstyle for a change. Dropping Juliana’s mermaid waves and Secretary Kim’s high ponytail, the actress went for an edgier look with a pixie cut. Although this was a fresh look for Kim these past years of sporting medium and long-length hairstyles, did you know that this isn’t the first time she actually rocked a cut this short?
In 2011, the Chinita Princess sported the pixie look in the primetime series, My Binondo Girl. Transforming herself as his brother, Yuan, her character Jade decided to chop her off to gain her father’s love. This show challenged Kim’s acting skills as she played two characters in one for the role.
13 years later, this nostalgic look of hers captures her personal transformation as a woman. In an Instagram post, the actress quoted, “‘I believe that everything happens for a reason. People change so that you can learn to let go, things go wrong so that you appreciate them when they’re right, you believe lies so you eventually learn to trust no one but yourself, and sometimes good things fall apart so better things can fall together.’”
In the short birthday reel that the actress uploaded, the Kim 2.0 captured her new persona through leather jackets and boots. “A year older. Braver. Stronger. Smarter. Wiser,” she described her renewed self.
Eventually, the actress revealed that her hairstyle was for creative purposes only. After her shoot, she is still sporting her long hair in her events, such as the wedding of Angelica Panganiban. After What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim and Linlang, are we perhaps seeing more adventurous looks and daring roles for her? Hopefully!
