CFDA Awards 2024: A Rundown of Filipino Attendees and Recognized Creatives
For those in the room and everywhere else in the world, the evening was a tribute to fashion’s power to inspire, connect, and transform
Under the starry dome of the American Museum of Natural History, the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Inc. (CFDA) Fashion Awards 2024 took prominence among the year’s biggest fashion talents. Hosted by the multi-talented Cynthia Erivo, the night honored today’s risk-takers’ shaping style. With Amazon Fashion as the presenting partner, this year’s CFDA Awards provided a full show, from bold looks to heartfelt tributes.

Filipino Glamour on the Red Carpet
The fashion was naturally as talked about as the awards themselves. Pia Wurtzbach graced the carpet in a red Carolina Herrera ball gown, adding serpent regality with gold BVLGARI jewelry.
Meanwhile, BJ Pascual wore a dark, forest green velvet dress with a soft sheen, paired with matching trousers by Rick Owens.
Then, Darren Criss turned to androgyny: a Christian Siriano fuchsia skirt adorned with floral details, paired with a cropped black tuxedo jacket.
Honoring the Trailblazers
The awards celebrated a mix of icons, innovators, and rising stars. Singer Erykah Badu was crowned Fashion Icon for her distinctive and trailblazing style. Fellow fashion maverick André 3000 presented Badu with the award, underscoring her impact on music and fashion alike.
Globetrotting editor and archivist Hamish Bowles received the Founder’s Award, a recognition named after CFDA founder Eleanor Lambert. Designer Marc Jacobs presented this honor, celebrating Bowles’ dedication to preserving fashion history.
The CFDA also paid homage to the late Isabel Toledo by renaming the Board of Directors’ Tribute in her honor. Actress Molly Ringwald presented the newly renamed tribute to Isabel Toledo, with her husband, Ruben Toledo, accepting on her behalf in a touching moment that honored her artistry and legacy.
The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, given to a designer with an enduring influence on fashion, went to Stephen Burrows, an innovator of American style. Donna Karan and Todd Oldham presented Burrows with the award, acknowledging his boundary-breaking work from the ‘70s and beyond.
Celebrating Innovation and Social Impact
Coach received the Innovation Award, presented by Amazon Fashion for its eco-conscious initiative, Coachtopia. Actors Charles Melton and Kelsea Ballerini awarded Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers, applauding the brand’s commitment to sustainability.
More than aesthetics, fashion is about change, too. The Positive Change Award went to Michael Kors, whose work has consistently championed charitable causes. The award was presented by Blake Lively and recognized Kors’ philanthropy and dedication to making a social impact.
Renowned photographer Annie Leibovitz received the Media Award in honor of Eugenia Sheppard, with Vogue’s Anna Wintour doing the honors. Leibovitz’s eye for storytelling through the lens celebrated her role in defining fashion’s visual language.
Trophies for Today’s Visionaries
Four designers received top awards for their contributions to American fashion. Rachel Scott, the designer behind Diotima, clinched the American Womenswear Designer of the Year award. Presented by actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph, this accolade marked Scott’s rise from last year’s Google Shopping Emerging Designer award to the pinnacle of American fashion.
Willy Chavarria’s socially conscious menswear earned him American Menswear Designer of the Year, as announced by singer Troye Sivan. Chavarria’s victory for the second straight year exhibits his expanding influence in refashioning menswear style.
The American Accessory Designer of the Year went to Raul Lopez of Luar, a designer whose statement-making bags have won global fans. Style icons Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie presented Lopez with the award, recognizing his ongoing impact on accessories.
Finally, the Google Shopping American Emerging Designer of the Year title went to Henry Zankov, the mind behind Zankov. Molly Gordon and Brandon Maxwell presented the award as they saluted Zankov’s method of design.
The CFDA Fashion Awards 2024 emphasized that American fashion is still a creative juggernaut as they incorporated the worldview perspective of creatives.
