Runway Rundown: Proenza Schouler F/W26 Leaves Perfection Behind
It’s a simple idea, really. So simple that it’s charming. A woman is running late, and she’s haphazardly put together an outfit with no regard for perfection. Juggling the demands of two fashion labels at once, Diotima designer Rachel Scott understands the friction of a busy life. For her—and for many career-driven women—there’s nothing more tiresome and constrictive than having to be constantly flawless. And it’s this perspective that shaped her F/W26 debut for Proenza Schouler.

Unpolished Grace
Walking into a fashion house defined for decades by Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez, Scott wanted to be intellectually subversive. On the surface, the clothes looked remarkably composed. There were suits and dresses that carried a clear sense of structure. But if you looked closer, things unravelled in the best way. Lapels were asymmetrical and buttons didn’t quite line up, giving the impression that the women on the runway had to be elsewhere afterward.
The most personal part of the collection appeared at the very end with a series of orchid prints. Scott grew these flowers herself and took photos of them late at night, eventually having the them transferred to fabric with the rough edges of the images still intact.
