Here’s What You Need To Know About the Filipino Crime Drama Series The Silent Noise
Few things are as central to Filipino culture as family. But what happens when that peace and structure are threatened in the pursuit of truth and justice? That’s one of the main questions the upcoming Filipino series The Silent Noise hopes to answer. The raw crime drama show comes courtesy of ABS-CBN Studios and explores a family going through a crisis as their fragile bond falls apart after a harrowing incident. Interestingly, it does so through the lens of a deaf child as the show puts the spotlight on the deaf community in a rare showing of representation from a mainstream series.

A Family in Turmoil
Set in a small town, The Silent Noise centers on parents Jackie and Anton and their deaf son Eli. The show’s events kick into motion when Eli’s sign language teacher is found dead on a cliffside. This causes Eli to face the truth he’s suppressed, risking the fragile truce his family fought to keep and preserve. As the investigation progresses, secrets are revealed, such as Anton’s complicated past with the teacher, which raises suspicions, tests relationships, and threatens to ruin the family at the heart of the crime.

This raw and atmospheric drama dives deep into the fragile balance between truth and reputation, guilt and conscience, and the high cost of accountability within a splintered family. The show unravels the raw emotional stakes of parenting through uncertainty, showing how silence can both protect and destroy, and how the pursuit of truth can shake the foundations of love. As the mystery deepens, the story reveals how love, loyalty, and silence can shape actions in unexpected ways.
Exposed to the Truth
Leading the show is Angelica Panganiban as Jackie, which marks her return to TV in years and her latest acting project following her well-received return to movies in the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Unmarry. She is joined by Zanjoe Marudo, who plays her partner Anton, Mutya Orquia and Zaijian Jaranilla as their children, and Mylene Dizon as the teacher. Onat Diaz, who served as the director for shows like The Alibi, Senior High, High Street, and Dirty Linen, will serve as the series’ director.

Newcomer KD Omalin rounds out the cast in the pivotal role of Eli, the couple’s youngest child. And just like his character on the show, KD is deaf in real life. Beyond the inherent tension of the plot, the show stands out with its emphasis on having a deaf main character and a good portion of the story revolving around his experiences. Eli’s deafness is used as an integral part of the plot as his innocence is exposed to the truth in a way his family can’t see, which amplifies the faults of his hearing family that weren’t initially perceived.

The series also puts the spotlight on what it’s like being deaf in a world that doesn’t always accommodate the needs of the community. That means, among other things, entire scenes being shot using Filipino Sign Language (FSL), and the actors, such as Angelica Panganiban, learning how to speak FSL for their lines and communicate with their co-stars.
It’s not often that local media feature proper representation of marginalized communities. So, to see a mainstream show produced by a top local entertainment company respectfully spotlight the Filipino deaf community and their experiences, so viewers will have a better understanding of what they go through, while giving opportunities to deaf actors, is a step in the right direction. It feels inclusive without sacrificing the show’s tense drama or turning their disability into a prop.
The Silent Noise premieres exclusively on Prime Video on March 20.
