The MCU Goes 2–0 With “Daredevil: Born Again” Season 2

At the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 1, the stakes had never been higher. Mayor Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. the Kingpin, had fully taken control of New York through his Anti-Vigilante Task Force. At the same time, Matt Murdock, a.k.a. Daredevil, began assembling an underground resistance to reclaim the city. With such a strong cliffhanger, the question for Season 2 is simple: Does the series follow through? Thankfully, the answer is a resounding yes. Daredevil: Born Again returns bigger and better than ever.

The Fight for New York City

Set a few months after the previous season, the stakes are immediately clear. Fisk has not only won the hearts and minds of the people of New York, but he has also consolidated his power—using his Task Force to silence opposition while expanding his influence through shady alliances. However, this position of power proves increasingly fragile as Daredevil rises to lead the resistance. With the help of Karen Page and a growing number of allies, Matt begins to expose Fisk’s true nature to the public.

At its core, Season 2 is about revolution—one fought across multiple fronts. For Daredevil, this translates into the high-octane action fans have been waiting for. Gone is the slow buildup of Matt suiting up; instead, nearly every episode features Daredevil clashing with Fisk’s forces in a series of intense and well-crafted fight sequences that showcase his abilities like never before.

At the same time, the fight extends beyond the streets. Karen Page and Atty. Kirsten McDuffie challenge Fisk through the legal system, while BB Urich takes the battle online, using modern journalism and social media to shape public perception. While the show’s themes may not be subtle, they are timely—touching on issues such as police brutality, due process, media manipulation, privilege, and the power of narrative control.

Of course, none of this would work without strong performances, and Born Again continues to excel in this area. By now, Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are Daredevil and Kingpin. Their portrayals feel effortless, as if these roles have become second nature, yet they never slip into self-parody. Season 2 also makes better use of its supporting cast. Characters like Karen Page, Bullseye, BB Urich, and Buck Cashman are given more substantial material, allowing them to leave a stronger impression.

Daredevil at His Best

Another major improvement this season is its cohesion. Season 1 was heavily impacted by the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, resulting in noticeable tonal shifts due to rewrites and reshoots. In contrast, Season 2 benefits from a unified creative direction under the team responsible for the show’s retooling. The result is a more focused, consistent, and thematically cohesive season with more confident visual storytelling, highlighted by creative sequences such as the stylized depiction of Daredevil’s senses and Bullseye’s psyche.

That said, the season is not without its flaws. Despite the strength of its cast, some characters get lost in the shuffle. Krysten Ritter’s long-awaited return as Jessica Jones, while entertaining, feels somewhat forced. Although the writers attempt to justify her presence, it ultimately comes across as fan service rather than an essential part of the narrative. Similarly, Matthew Lillard’s mysterious CIA character fails to register as a credible threat. While Lillard is engaging on screen, his role feels underdeveloped—more like a minor obstacle than a meaningful antagonist tied to the larger story.

All in all, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 builds upon its foundation with higher stakes, stronger cohesion, and more confident storytelling. The cast remains in top form, and the action sequences capture the character’s signature brutality in a way few MCU projects dare to attempt.

While not without its shortcomings—and while its themes may not break new ground—the series continues to stand as one of Marvel’s strongest television offerings. Daredevil: Born Again Season 1 was already a strong showing and a welcome return to form for the beloved hero in the MCU. But season 2 steps it up in nearly all aspects. Much of that success is owed to its talented cast and crew, as well as its clear and unapologetic love for the original Netflix series.
