In an exclusive interview with MEGA, Filipino designer Chris Nick teaches us a thing or two about the sexy chic look

Nowadays, fashion has been inclusive when it comes to infusing unconventional styles. What was once deemed inappropriate or sensual is now considered trendy and chic. But how does one pull off this look effortlessly?

There’s no better person to ask this question other than Chris Nick, the Filipino designer who embraces all things alluring and sexy. In an interview with MEGA Magazine, the designer gave us an in-depth perspective of the sexy chic aesthetic and tips on how we can incorporate it stylishly.

Before diving into which clothes to wear, one must ask themselves why they’re doing it in the first place. Is it to stay on trend, to be confident, or to be simply seen in the crowd? These are little questions that need to be asked so we know how to carry ourselves appropriately while donning sultry outfits. For Chris Nick, being sexy has to come from within and never something that needs to be forced out. He expressed, “Sexy chic means effortless sensuality when it comes to dressing.”

The two words may seem contrasting to some, but they actually balance each other out. Being sexy is a manifestation of one’s confidence that exudes naturally. Meanwhile, being chic is knowing the art of minimalism.

Of course, the interest towards this style doesn’t just happen so suddenly, and Chris has quite the history with his likeness towards everything sensual. The comfort is rooted all the way back since he grew up with the arts. It’s the films, music, and art that he saw over the years that made him feel comfortable with the idea of sensuality, which he then embraced as time passed. Chris explained, “I started being really comfortable with showing the more sensual-risqué side of me and that just honed my personal style even more.” 

We can see this trickle down to his designs because they are the epitome of sexy chic. It’s also his choice of muses that make his pieces come alive even more because of the alluring confidence they show. So how does one attain such security in themselves? Chris simply said that if a woman knows what she wants, knows how to get it and not fail, then that’s how she can become confidently sexy. 

Since we’ve got the key to being sexy down, it’s time to figure out how to do it through the clothes we wear. An example of this would be the go-to pieces the designer wears on a casual day. His key picks would consist of a tailored pair of ultra low-waisted tuxedo flare pants or denim flare jeans, a leather jacket in Courreges vinyl, and cowboy boots with matching cowboy belt. His key advice? It’s better if the finish looks beaten up. 

To finish off the ensemble, the designer would often use a cropped turtleneck or a button-down shirt for a sleek look. He makes sure that the classics never leave his closet. Chris even shared, “This is my current rotation and no one has ever called me an outfit repeater.”

Looking at the outfit as a whole, it’s definitely more on the edgy side. So if you’re planning to recreate this ensemble, make sure to get the details right with the low-waist cut, rugged finish, and a good quality leather jacket. 

It’s tricky to look effortlessly chic when you’re trying to infuse a bit of a sensual touch to your outfit, but it doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. With the right pieces and right attitude, there is no doubt that sexy chic aesthetic will be yours to own someday.
