This year, fashionistas of all ages—especially Gen Zs—have enjoyed experimenting with styles, patterns, and textures, playing with layers, prints, and jewelry stacking, and we’re sure that this streetwear style will continue next year. Gen Zs aren’t afraid of the “more is more” mantra, featuring colors, shapes, and textures in one outfit, embracing diversity, creativity, and self-expression with every look that they curate. Let’s Get Loud

Loud prints and screaming colors are the way to go with maximalist streetwear. Wearing loud colors could be daunting at first, and it’s easy to mess up, but take it a piece at a time. Whether it’s a bright color or a loud print, you’re bound to turn heads! Start by layering an interesting jacket with a large design, or consider a pair of attention-grabbing pants to contrast your basic, minimalist pieces.

Pattern or Pattern?

One pattern is already loud enough, but pattern on pattern? It sounds crazy, I know, but part of maximalism is experimenting with elements, but a good rule of thumb is to have common elements for a cohesive ensemble. Take patterns, for example. You could pair organic, free-flowing patterns like animal prints with structured patterns such as plaid and houndstooth, so long as they have a uniting element like colors.

Shining, Shimmering Stacks

Your outfits are never finished without accessories, but with maximalism, one is never enough! If you’ve got enough piercings, show them off with a solid earring stack, but don’t stop there. You could also stack your necklace of varying widths and textures, mix them up with pendants, basic chains, and chunky statement necklaces—but please stack on a reasonable amount and not wear all your necklaces. It’s the same with your bracelets: pair them with dainty and chunky pieces for a balanced ensemble. Don’t forget your fingers! With two or three rings per hand, your maximalist ensemble is complete. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could even even mix metals.

The beauty of fashion is that you get to show your personality through your style. So long as you’re happy with your look, strut the streets with confidence and enjoy the heads turning your way. An amazing aspect of being Gen Z is that they don’t care what others think of them. No matter how crazy, how over-the-top, or how our style makes sense to other people, what matters is that it makes us happy.
