Everything We’re Excited to See in The Devil Wears Prada 2

Twenty years have passed since we first learned that a specific shade of cerulean represents millions of dollars and countless jobs. Fashion representation hasn’t been the same since the exhausted assistant Andy Sachs liberated herself by tossing her phone into a Parisian fountain. The wait for a sequel has been long, but the full trailer of The Devil Wears Prada 2 is finally here to confirm that we’re returning to the Runway office soon.

Who else is ready to be judged by a single pursed lip once more? Us! Ahead, here are the things we’re looking forward to the most.

Everything About Miranda Priestly

New ERA, same ice

Meryl Streep reappearing as the incomparable Miranda Priestly is the gift we truly deserve. This time, she’ll be facing a different type of beast: the digital age. To witness her navigate the decline of print media while maintaining her icy poise is going to be a cinematic treat. Interestingly, the trailer also hints that she has absolutely no memory of who Andy “Andrea” Sachs is, which is either a terrifying sign of the times or just classic Miranda.

Either way, color us intrigued as to how her flight to Milan will play out because her out-of-country trips tend to be climactic. And yes, we’re clearing space in our daily vocabulary for whatever soul-crushing line she’ll be delivering this time around.

Emily Blunt Reprising Her Role

Then there’s our favorite overachiever, Emily Charlton, who was once the patron saint of anyone trying to survive a toxic workplace through a diet of cheese cubes. We’ll be hearing her accent again, and it feels like a reunion with a beloved—albeit judgmental—friend. From fetching coffee to becoming an executive at a luxury conglomerate, watching her hold the purse strings over Miranda’s advertising budget is deliciously poetic. We just know current stressed-out assistants are cheering for her.

Andy Sachs as a Features Editor

Features editor status: Unlocked

Of course, the heart of the story is Andy Sachs. Anne Hathaway is back. We loved her then when she was just a girl who asked how to spell ‘Gabbana’. We’re especially thrilled now to see her turn into an experienced features editor. From the stills alone, she has clearly traded the lumpy sweaters for a new wardrobe. Andy 2.0 is confident, cool, and collected—or is she? Because we suspect working with Miranda for the second time might make some panicked instincts resurface. But seeing her stand firmly as a potential equal to her boss after the industry almost ate her alive is the character development we’ve been waiting for.

Stanley Tucci and More

A sequel would feel empty without the wisdom of Nigel. As the much needed reprieve from Miranda, he was basically the Morgan Freeman of the first film—full of brutal, yet well-meaning honesty that became essential to Andy’s growth. He was the only one who could tell her she was failing while simultaneously making her look like a goddess in Chanel, and we need that energy back in our lives. Thankfully, Stanley Tucci is ready to bring his endearing style of mentorship again. Protect him at all costs.

Names like Lucy Liu, Lady Gaga, Simone Ashley, and B.J. Novak will also be joining the fray. And while we didn’t see their faces in the trailer, we’re eager to find out how they’ll fit in this high-stakes world.

The countdown to the premiere is officially on. When it finally hits cinemas, expect to be reminded why we will always be a little bit afraid of Miranda Priestly. We highly suggest you start practicing your most dismissive “that’s all” as early as now. And for the love of everything that is good, gird your loins!
