Reset, Realign, Return: How a Beauty Vacation Can Make the Most Out of Your Summer Break

This is an excerpt from MEGA’s April 2026 Beauty All-Access

Our search for escape often returns us to familiar destinations: verdant landscapes for conscious simplicity, high-altitude ridges for peaceful settings, and long coastlines for a slower pace of living. I have certainly enjoyed these places. But this has left me wondering: when we need real reconnection and a true reset, where do we turn?

This isn’t to say these experiences are any less restorative—they are. But sometimes, even in our best attempts to drive, sail, and fly miles away from the city, our restlessness finds ways to follow.

It’s no longer about where we travel, but how we do it.

The more I sit with this thought, the clearer it becomes: chasing the highs of vacations is behind us. What we seek now are lasting, meaningful experiences that bring us back to ourselves—ones that don’t demand a restless state of forward motion, but instead offer space to pause, breathe, and redefine what wellness really means on our own terms.

It’s a growing shift that many hospitality groups are fully committing to. Ramon Makilan of Taal Vista Hotel tells MEGA, “Through the decades, we’ve seen how Filipino vacations are deeply relational. Travel is often centered on family milestones, reunions, celebrations, and shared meals. But we have also noticed a subtle transition. There is now a stronger desire for intentional rest.”

He continues, “Many Filipino guests are looking for slower mornings, spa experiences, scenic walks, and quiet moments in between gatherings. Wellness is becoming part of the vacation narrative—not necessarily in a rigid way, but integrated naturally into the stay. It’s about balance: celebration and stillness, indulgence and restoration.”

This evolving outlook is what many luxury wellness resorts like The Farm at San Benito have experienced firsthand. “Our Filipino community often seeks togetherness—moments to reconnect with family, to celebrate milestones, or simply to rest. They value authenticity and experiences that feel both meaningful and joyful,” Sophia Dadula of The Farm at San Benito shares.

The Farm, which recently entered a new chapter with Marriott International, has always positioned itself as a healing sanctuary where the body, mind, and spirit can breathe freely—offering a place where wellness is embraced as a way of life. “What touches us most is how many Filipinos choose The Farm not only for leisure, but for transformation, trusting us to guide them toward healthier, more mindful living.”

Our conversation made me realize how many narratives around wellness today revolve around productivity and performance—how wellness has come to feel like work. Hard work. Perhaps this is where we are missing the point. Perhaps this is why we feel so spent, even on vacation. We have never learned to pause.

Now, Filipino wellness is responding to that.

Filipino wellness is a holistic practice that pursues harmony between mind, body, and spirit through instinctive forms of traditional and spiritual healing. At its center is care, or pag-aalaga: care for family, care for the community, care for the land we live on, and care for ourselves. This is why our approach to wellness resists comparison. In a world that moves in restless forward motion, we take a mindful pause and focus on what matters most.

With this, I asked, “Wellness is at the spine of our beauty culture. How do you honor and amplify these traditions?”

“The Philippines holds a treasure trove of healing wisdom—from herbal remedies and rituals of rest to practices of community care. To strengthen their identity, we celebrate them openly: we document, share, and weave them into modern wellness narratives,” Sophia answers. “In collaboration with cultural custodians and wellness associations, The Farm at San Benito is bringing the Filipino brand of wellness to global recognition as something rich, relevant, and alive.”

“At The Farm, we offer journeys that are flexible—whether a guest seeks a gentle reset or a deeper immersion. Equally important, we are constantly engaged in research and development, exploring how the fast pace of technology can harmonize with nature and wellness,” Sophia explains. “This allows us to refine our programs, introduce new modalities, and ensure that our guests experience healing that is both relevant and enduring. Our connection to nature guides us: sourcing locally, nurturing our gardens, and embracing regenerative practices so that every stay is not only restorative for the guest, but also respectful of the earth.”

Hilot, one of the oldest known healing methods in the country, is given new life in their spa and treatment services through a merging of traditional practices with modern wellness. Hilot Lakambini, for one, is designed to help women achieve hormonal balance and promote overall well-being through therapeutic massage, essential oils, and medicinal herbs. Meanwhile, Tres Baños Lunas involves an herbal bath, herbal steaming, and a Hilot Tapal massage.

“We embrace innovations that resonate with holistic healing, yet we anchor them in practices that have stood the test of time. Guest feedback is our compass, ensuring that every new service feels authentic and nurturing,” she adds.
