Marian Rivera Welcomes Her Birthday With a Cinemalaya Best Actress Award
The votes were in for Balota, and Marian Rivera bested the nominees as she shared the Best Actress Award with Kono Basho’s Gabby Padilla
August is indeed Marian Rivera’s month. Just a day shy of her 40th birthday, the Kapuso actress was hailed as the best actress for Balota. In her acceptance speech, she expressed her gratitude to those who believed in her and looked after her during their shooting.
“Sa lahat po ng bumubuo ng Cinemalaya, marami pong salamat sa inyo. To my GMA family, thank you. Direk Kip, umpisa pa lang ng shooting natin, ramdam ko ang 100% na pagtitiwala mo sa kakayahan ko na paano ko iaarte si Teacher Emmy, kaya thank you so much.”

She continued her speech, giving a special mention to the staff and crew. “Sa lahat ng staff and crew, sa loob ng anim na shooting days, ramdam ko ‘yung pag-aalala—yes, sorry to say that, six shooting days—ramdam ko ‘yung pagmamahal, ‘yung pag-aalala, pag-gabay nila sa’kin na safe ako, na kahit anong bigat ng nararamdaman ko sa lahat ng eksena, never nila akong pinabayaan at mine-make sure nila na maayos akong uuwi kahit sugat-sugat ako. Thank you sa lahat ng cast na kasama ko dito, napakahuhusay ninyo.”
In a report by Vonne Aquino on 24 Oras, the actress opened up on how the film changed her outlook on her career. “Palagi kong sinasabi lalo na sa asawa ko na, alam mo ‘yung ang tagal ko sa showbiz, pero parang bumalik ulit ‘yung fulfillment ko sa sarili ko sa paggawa ng trabaho.”
The Kip Oebanda film featured Marian as Teacher Emmy who had the last ballot box of their town’s elections results. She also won the sole award of Balota apart from its box-office hit among the audience. The Best Actress award was a tie between Rivera and Kono Basho’s Gabby Padilla.
At the awards night, Marian wore a black corseted ensemble with pink bow appliques from Fancì Club, paired with her statement pink Lady Dior bag. Her husband, Dingdong Dantes, also attended the awarding as well as the gala night last August 4.
