A Brief History of Filipina Performers at Coachella Through the Years

No music festival in the world has the reputation quite like the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. For decades, the event has been regarded as a premier stop for artists and a must-visit destination for music fans. While situated in the California desert, Coachella is known for gathering a global roster of artists for its lineup every year. Over the years, this has included a handful of Filipina and half-Filipino artists who have graced the festival’s many stages.

From full sets to guest appearances, not only can these women say they performed at Coachella and showcased their artistry and talent, but they also helped lay the groundwork for more Filipinas to get their deserved spotlight on the world stage. While 2026 has been a watershed year for the Philippines at Coachella, Filipinos have been performing on the festival stage a lot longer than some may realize. Take a walk down memory lane below.

Oscar and Grammy winner H.E.R. added to the Filipino representation at Coachella when she was included on the official lineup of the 2019 edition. At the time, the Filipino-American musician was already considered a rising star in the R&B scene, and her career has continued to reach new heights since.

From her bedroom to Coachella Valley, beabadoobee, who was born in Iloilo City but moved to the UK when she was three years old, has performed at Coachella twice. She was part of the official roster for the 2022 and 2025 editions, each time serenading the crowd with her indie-pop hits. At just 21 years old then, beabadoobee made history in 2022 as the youngest Filipina to have performed at Coachella. And it seems that she’s a festival favorite as she was initially part of the lineup in 2020 before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Filipino-Chinese American rapper Saweetie has graced the Coachella stage on a few occasions as a guest performer. First, she made a guest appearance during Anitta’s set in 2022 to perform their collaboration Faking Love. Then, a year later, Saweetie joined fellow rapper Latto during her set to spit some bars from B–ch From Da Souf (Remix).

Olivia Rodrigo – Future Headliner

Believe it or not, Olivia Rodrigo has never headlined Coachella before, though we have a feeling it will be only a matter of time before that happens. Still, Rodrigo has performed twice on the stage at Coachella so far. The first came in 2024 when she joined rock band No Doubt onstage for a surprise performance. Most recently, she was a surprise guest at Addison Rae’s set, where they performed Headphones On and drop dead together.

As the first homegrown Filipino act to perform at Coachella, BINI didn’t just achieve a career milestone; they made history. Over two weekends, the P-pop girl group made waves at Coachella and across the world with their performances. Their historic set was their time to put a spotlight on OPM and Filipino talent. You could feel the fire and how proud BINI is to represent the country at Coachella. And the fact that it’s young women who are helping lead the charge for greater appreciation of OPM on the world stage makes it even better.

Sophia Laforteza – Local Girl, Global Dreams

2026 was a big year for Filipino representation at Coachella. And while a lot of attention understandably went to BINI, there was also the fact that Sophia Laforteza made her Coachella debut with KATSEYE this year as well. The girl group delivered strong performances on both weekends, with Laforteza highlighting the historic moment for the Philippines during Weekend 1. “I’m overwhelmed with emotion. It’s so beautiful. I see some people raising the Philippine flag here at Coachella. You guys are making our dreams come true,” she told the crowd.

Gingee – No Stranger to Coachella

R&B, pop, and rap aren’t the only genres that have been represented by Filipinas at Coachella. So too is electronic music, thanks to Filipino-American DJ and producer Gingee. The Filipina DJ, who is known for combining electronic music with traditional Filipino instruments like kulintang gongs, has performed at Coachella on not one, not two, but five different occasions, namely: 2018, 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026. Each time, she brings her Coachella Valley-approved beats and mixes while proudly representing her Filipino-American heritage.
